welcoming 2020 with all fervour and prayer

New year musings 2020 from Adelaide
Every new year revives old desires and dreams and presents an opportunity to make new promises and resolutions. Therefore  the year 2020 is not an exception to this; but 2020 is not just an another year and  it is perhaps  something unique and  special in the sense that  an auro had been built around  it for many years; it had been treated more like a bench mark,- reference year for long ; in many nations  including my home country India  slogans or statements  such as where will my country be in 2020;will poverty be gone and health care provided to all and the like - many shallow statements were made without any substance and that tradition of sterile persuasion and irrelevant goals are being resurrected with blatant religious clothing neglecting economy society and people now.

Did the  similar statements made by politicians   make any sense ?Absolutely not .The absurdity of sterile and shallow resolutions of impotent and irresponsible governments has been always obvious and the same is the case with every new year resolutions of individuals and institutions .

Thinking about the thoughts of many years gone by, and the new year resolutions made then ,we do not hesitate to make new year oaths ,and thus  virtually shout and crow to be a better and reformed human ,knowing full well the new year cravings recorded in the new year diary  –are all going to be  like writing on the sands of sea shore  as  the waves of new desires and the standing temptations all the five senses  will wipe them away constantly  .

The New Year resolution stays put, for a while
Say for a few weeks at least, no matter how farce they are
If God wills and our credit balance is trust worthy we survive
Till the arrival of the New Year only to revive the old desires
And of course to make fresh promises which again
We are not going to keep as they are certain to be
Demolished  by the intensity of kamam and attachment.

We are not tired of making  new year resolutions as
They do not cost us , but elevate to a higher plane
For  days or weeks, until the karmic law of desire asserts.

Amidst all chaos  and uncertainty we all live on hope , however faint they may  be  ,
We all pray for better times ;and feverishly  and prayerfully hope for our suffering to end
He alone knows, whether all our  hopes turn into ashes or it prospers .

This musing is part of a philosophical piece written two months ago, corrected and typed at adelaide and posted 10 minutes before the birth of 2020.
