Speech prepared for one of my grand daughters which is important : Being good or becoming great and famous

Good morning / afternoon. Learned judges, my dear teachers and  fellow student friends.

I stand before this August assembly to share my thoughts on the topic given with the help of Tamil literature i have learnt in my primary school days.

Which is important 

Being good or 

Becoming great and famous?

If good people are also great and famous that is simply great. That will be an ideal combination but alas it is not destined to be in real life with a few exceptions.

I have learnt  fro scholars, " great men ar almost always a bad men ". I know that ine can't generalize like this  but the fact of the matter is that it is invariably so.

Saint valluvar says that unless we leave behind our legacy and fame  after death there is no meaning in our birth and it is good that we were not born.

Yes i know that becoming great and famous is important. But an  equally important thing is that being good and doing more good things are more important. But unfortunately those who get the chance to enjoy power and authority go astray and become bad human beings. Power corrupts and absolute power gives misplaced arrogance and corrupts absolutely in a reckless manner. They do not mind  not becoming good because they prefer to remain bad and want to get rid of good from circulation. This is what Gresham Law means... Bad money drives good money from circulation. I would say bad drives out good.

Being good is more important than becoming great and famous because one will get real joy and bliss in life only by virtuous acts and good character. Aram is more important.

Good people desire to lead a virtuous life, remain honest, do not envy wealthy, or covet another person's wife. They may not be rich but will not forget charity. They will not be angry for flimsy mistake of others. They will only give and not grab from others.They will give and forgive and  forget all the unpleasant deeds of others. They will feed the needy and hungry  subject to the budget constraints.

They will have trust and Faith in friends once they were chosen. They will emulate the great ones only when they are good. For them there's no envy or hatred towards anyone. They will never lie or give false promises which they can't keep. They will speak only truth and aways keep the good of the society in mind.

They will not talk ill of others nor forget gratitude. Every word they speak will be good and beneficial and all their earnings will be through honest means. They will refrain from doing anything bad.

Thus far i have articulated the view that being good and Righteous is far more important than becoming great and famous by the fraudulent route. I have marshalled my arguments from Avvaiyr's Athisoodi and valluvar's Thirkkuràl.

Sir i will be happy to remain good and honest rather than being and becoming great and famous by treacherous deeds.

I make a request to my beloved fellow friends that our Language Tamil is the greatest ancient one full of the pearls of treasure... We must dig them  eat them by chewing slowly relishing the life every moment.
