A story read long ago and translated into English.. An example how a happiness multiplier works

A lady gently smiled at a person looking depressed. Rejuvenated by her smile his heart got lightened. Instantly he remembered the timely help rendered to him by his old friend. Reaching home the first thing he did was to write a letter to him thanking his friend profusely.

The said friend who was dining at a restaurant took this letter from his pocket and read again. He was so overwhelmed by the sentimental concern and love expressed there in, he became happy and offered a heavy tips to the bearer.

This served  as an incentive for the server to work harder and for longer hours.Highly impressed with his  work performance the owner of the restaurant came forward  give him a lump sum bonus. As it happened to be his first bonus the bearer decided to share fifty percent of the amount with  his best  lesser privileged friend.

The impoverished friend , propelled by this benevolence  while returning home saw a small puppy trembling with cold under heavy rain. He took  the puppy with  all affectionate concern  and reached his hut.

The same night when the hut got fire the small puppy barked at high pitch and woke up the master and his son
