Let us love life with all its cruelties, absurdities and uncertainties

In the last two postings I have been attempting to translate a few pages taken from a Russian novel in Tamil version noted down in my diary on 2 December 1984.I do not remember the contents of the novel. These six pages give the essence of suffering in life- in anybody’s life. The message is simple; under any adverse circumstance we should not lose the courage and confidence in life. In the  globalised   and globalising world today many millions and millions of people suffer for waof good jobs and ideal working conditions and more important there are more sadistic and stupid bosses-shallow creatures devoid of ethics and moral values, calling the shots by virtue holding positions  and tormenting the innocent and brave, hard working and the honest. This translation will help all these unfortunate elite to get some consolation and also understand the laws and lessons of life.

Now   I shall continue the sad tale of a young couple caught in the vortex of pain and agony. You will realize at the end if only everyone had an understanding lover who also happens to be wife like Sergai the male character in the novel- one need not worry about anything. Readers must be aware that I am talking the ideal like the preaching of kural or the consoling words of the young girl in the novel .Indeed the purpose of literature is to distil the essence of contemporary events of life and give the right direction to our life.

BEFORE the evolution of monkeys into human they laughed and raised their heads, attempting to make their backbone erect more firmly. Then they profusely cried and wiped out their tears. It was only at that time they understood thatthey had two hands and there after the monkeys transformed into humans.

“MY dear son, always keep this truth in your mind and heart. Understand that it is only those people who love their life will labour for it. True, it is very difficult to carry a big stone at noon time under the scorching sun. It might appear that even the sun at the time of noon had stopped shedding its light. This holds well for all the people including those military men we were talking about sometime ago. They are also ordinary people like us .Don’t put them into any special category. They are all like you and me. The only difference is that they had a deep seated love and attachment to life”.(so let us love life with all its cruelties, absurdities and uncertainties )
