while Akshaya was born

Right from  the start there were apprehensions  and fear
But also hopes and feverish prayers for your
Safe arrival and survival as the first representative of
Prof Duraisamy Sambandhan’s family tree

Unbounded faith in the supreme and the goodness of the universe
Always promised and reassured me that
Everything  would go well and yet
As a doubting Thomas and fragile  human
We had butterflies in our stomach and the
Atmosphere was bristling with uncertainties.

Only yesterday I was at your side
Touching your  toes and fingers,
Providing the warmth to your tender body,
But all the time observing the pain written on face
And the raising and lowering of the chest and abdomen.

I  know you would overcome all  the hurdles
And breathe the fresh air outside and also
The air of freedom and aggressive independence,
And later full autonomy in thinking,

Making all of us cry and laugh with joy.
