Translating A Tamil poem written
by Ravi
Subramanian:
My title: Journeying through
Forest
Translation is not
merely verbally translating mechanically; the translator must enter the author
and capture his feelings and the soul sibling experience and also add his own
flavour and spice. My acknowledgment to thinamani.
While jostling
through the dense forest,
Darkness pervades everywhere.
It is bristling with animals’ roars and birds’ chirping
sound
Tall trees
attempting to reach the sky,
Leaf
carasses and the resulting sound of coitus,
A great
torrential waterfall and
the gently flowing stream
And yet
there were no humans,
And therefore
there was nothing
TO BE AFRAID
OF.
