teaching of economics on money some quotes

Sir , sorry . daddy, what is money?
Money is what money does, says Walker.
Will you elaborate/explain a little bit?
Again I will quote my dear, from memory:
“Money is a matter of function four,
A medium , measure , standard and store”
Fantastic  nice couplet like kural  the great kural
Yes you are right  sakthi , my joe.
Shall I tell one more sentence to capture the flow and the flavor
Go on daddy  I am eager to learn
Money is round so that it can circulate and
money is flat so that it can be piled up.
Great quote…Now go to sleep  we shall continue tomorrow
Yes and No I am in good mood and my fingers
are eager to wander the keyboard.
Yes I do understand  get some good sleep
You only told me that sleep deprivation is
More dangerous for health…….
No problem I feel young while romancing with
My girl friend, wife, and companion:ECONOMICS
Good  we shall meet in the afternoon( India time)
Ok bye my kisses to my master great Arjun

teaching some economics to our leaders part-1

Teaching some economics to our leaders part 1

Indian rupee is now the focus of attention. Gandhi notes not of Nehru dynasty bearing 100s and1000s have become just a piece of paper not even worth for toilet purpose. But the PM has given time for exchanging the old into new notes .I have not watched TV debate on this subject.
I remember an English movie seen long ago wherein a gang attempts to print British pound sterling notes on a day when football match was going on in Bank of England. After the print out they notice that the colour has faded/changed and get frustrated. One fellow will take a note and light his cigarette and another take a bunch of notes and put them into the holes of the canvas shoe.
Going back to our surgical strike on Gandhi notes  honest tax payers need not worry whatever the  rules the govt may  formulate  provided they  are the regular tax payers   and their taxable income is below the limit and hence have not bothered to collect the pan number or  file returns .The govt must focus on those who have  the stock of wealth and the flow of income  but did not bother to realize their citizenry obligations to government .
Being a passionate teacher and reader in macro, monetary and international  economics for more than four decades I felt that daily I should work like recditing prayers which I do not normally do.
Once this becomes the habit  and walking also becomes an integral part of my lazy life  then I will write sambandhan’  wickipedia  on the financial crisis of 20 th century  my dream project
What I write in the next few days will be from my memory  and after 2017  I will try  to collect my notes and books and write in a different style  but in an understandable language…I seek the divine intervention to make me work on a daily basis…..In case I commit any mistake or the treatment of the subject is not adequate  you can correct me

I keep all my students in mind especially the MIM guys  and the list is long to narrate.  Already I have written to narendra  perhaps this will be the continuation of that exercise and I will be connected with my students spread all over the world.I  sit before the laptop(which gives lot of problems as it has aged) and the time is 2 AM…It will take some time to regulate my sleep pattern and study schedule  and I also want to relax in the retirement period by spending more time on the beach…… but at that time  Harikumar’s  the courage to Act or Armstrong’s The future of Money or Suresh Neela kantan’s  soros book on euro will be my companion…..it is easy to say   dream   but very difficult to do    I have been sufficiently and affectionately warned by Citi bank Sampath kumar that I should work more and write more on economics     the time has come now thanks to MODI’s shock  I will begin with money Keynes and Friedman   -all in the context of  the current situation  educating the rulers who may not have read the subject as I have studied   It is not knowledge  but the feel   like love feeling for the subject that matters most

strong liquidity preference but still in acute liquidity crisis

Chicken briyani and  the unintended consequence of Modism
MY sick and ailing wife for more than three decades (who has now only working relation ) yesterday demanded plain Briyani and chicken 65.Despite the fact that the wallet was bristling with 500 and 1000 rupee notes(only a few days back fifty thousand was withdrawn from IB university branch  and another fifty which was given as advance for the apartment purchased over a period of 6 to 7 years from the salary amount exclusively with little assistance from the eldest daughter I was struggling for liquid cash of just 100 rupees.
For ages I have been paid only in higher denominations and we never botherd  to keep  changes . Despite high liquidity preference in the last six months for varied reasons I was in a liquidity crisis. A road side fruit vendor near my home enjoying the shade of y neem tree (which will meet its death in a few months like the 100s and 1000s as my daughter will be constructing her home)  agreed to lend 100 provided I purchased fruits for 300.Went to the shop the familiar one where my younget daughter used to buy  but it was closed : economics was at work  people did not have the change.   Yes those who have not paid the taxes for ages but sitting on the mountain of the cash  also need to change  and the govt must allot PAN  to those people without waiting for them to apply
I returned back and asked her .She was insistent that she must take and celebrate. She appreciates the PM for the bold measures with all her imagined enemies’ bombarding her every second.I only wish OUR  PM had her boldness and righteous anger against the parasites sapping the energy of India  who are they   we will elaborate  in the forthcoming postings

I  went to a shop opposite to Sarguru and got nice stuff and the balance of Rs 15 was treated as loan. Unusually it was good and she relished. She took only the white part of the boiled egg and just tasted the leg piece and 80% 0f the food landed on my plate…
I remembered the article by MSS pandian in EPW  long ago:The chicken Briyani and inconsequential Bhramanism…The crisis  on the monetary side now is welcome provided the authorities  take follow up action .there are shocks and disturbances in real economy and the poor suffer. I will articulate as economics teacher  on a daily basis and let kural and global crisis wait
I am happy that Mr Modi has made my better half to understand my value in running around  and the nation will know the significance of Mr Modi….will he prove that he is a man difficult to dislike    Time alone can tell..My friend Bahu… are you listening   I am only the critical commentator by training and subject knowledge  not a blind supporter of any one including Modi   I only want him not to be hijacked by the corporate vested interests and extreme Hinduthava and behave like PM for all the states and for the people and come out of CM mindset .

Translating a Tamil Poem: tea flower

Tea Flower-A poem by Mounan in Tamil

The chembaruthi plant is over-flowing/Bristling with flowers
Those who walk devouring the captivating flowers
Experience a feeling of   tasting a cup of good tea.

Like the mouth of a child desirous of receiving kiss
The flowers in convex shape during rainy season
Look like the whitened lips of a girl,
They change colour.

At the sunset time,
When they reflect and transmit
The nature’s excessive lust (kama),

In the shrunken part of the flower,
Magaranthangal transform into liquid

An exercise in translation: Loving Loneliness by Poet Pazhani bharathi

Loving Loneliness – a poem by  pazshani bharathi
In the current issue of KUmdham   Life  dt  26-10-2016.
It’s a pleasant feeling to love loneliness
As there is no one new there
Beloved people are close by your side.

In the empty cup in front of us
We shall take our smiles as fog /mist porridge
And drink it( abundantly)

We shall drink  the tears like a
Bitter alchohal

Like the outer mirror of loneliness.
we shall see our face staring it.

We shall float our  heart
As a bubble/a ripple on water.
When that is  sparkling on us
We may be there or cease to exist.
It is a pleasant sensation
To love loneliness.

I exist because of you and vice versa

We live in an interdependent system where everything depends on everything else,In all we eat and wear the infinite labour of many is involved;noone is an island. We need to depend on others for our needs. The same is also the case with them
So  while this interdependence is obvious and apparent and all of us influence and interest each other  how come hostility, hatred and all kinds of enemity creep in  and there is a dance of violence all around
Jalaluddin said long ago: the existence mine on earth depends upon the lives of my fellow beings.I exist because of you and vice versa”
His classic saying “go beyond your own needs and merge yourself into the ocean of compassion”.
The recent Cauvery water row is a fitting testimony of the dominance of hatred over love, insanity over reason and throwing away of all the canons of ethics and principles of federalism.
Two neighboring states behave like enemy territories and the idea of India is hardly visible ;indeed the surgical operation must have been conducted to discipline the rogue neighbor  but alas  this is a country where the short sighted politicians eye only on the election prospects ignoring the long run ramifications of their action on the very survival and unity of this nation which is more of a continent size….All of us are together on the map but not at all having the spirit of  Indian and TN has suffered more for parading that spirit of  Indian and displaying a cultured behaviour

Keynes General Theory at 80

Keynes GT at 80
A few preliminaries for beginners.
In 1930s the capitalist segment of the world economy plunged into a great depression. The stock market crash and the mass bank failures created huge unemployment, social unrest and political uncertainty. The contagion was pervasive n the US, UK and Europe.
Keynes’  General Theory of Employment ,Interest and Money was conceived in the shadows of depression and  addressed  Itself to the problem of unemployment and offered a solution. For the pre- Keynesian classical orthodoxy balanced budget was an article of faith and they would never deviate from that fiscal conservatism even when the conditions of deflation would threaten the economic structure.
Keynes in his GT,  brought about  a transformation in the outlook and attitudes of  the economist and statesmen towards economic problems. By changing the character of public finance ie by advocating the unbalanced (deficit) budget to balance the economy , he introduced a radical policy shift towards lax fiscal policy to combat depression;monetery policy becoming  ineffective in  Liquidity Trap situation,Keynes, fiscal policy began to command more professional respectability and immediate public relevance.
Summing up its relevance I think it is Paul Davidson who wrote in his, The Age Of K eynes thus:” the economics which Keynes preached in his masterwork , the 1936 General Theory  Of  Employment interest and Money, split Cambridge opinion, outraged former teachers and colleagues of the moment and set in motion  an ideological quarrel among professional economists  which lasted a decade at least.’’
“ His mind was powerful, flexible and inventive, a  trio of qualities infrequently found in  each other’s company   ….he longed to divert public officials from mistaken policy to enlightened action,:
It is something very strange but true that when Keynesianism was on the decline and monetarism emerged as a counter revolution Nixon told: we are all Keynesians now/

The decade old global economic crisis gave fresh oxygen to the economics of Keynes and I have already written a small  monograph. In the remaining period of life I will read kural and the financial crisis more and supplement with my accumulated notes crying for publication

Nobel prize for contract Theory: simple meaning /Relevace for Cauvery Row/pay hike for academics and others

This year Nobel prize in economics has gone to Oliver Harts and Bengst Holmsstrom, the British and Finland economists for the research work carried out in the 70s and 80s on conract theory which has wide applicability from governance to constitution law. All of us  know real life events and incidents revolve around contracts and indeed all transactions depend on implicit or explicit contract: there are employment Contracts, credit contracts and insurance contracts and so on .you will concede that better contracts and improved institutions will go a long way in making the country strong.
Should providers of public services such as schools, hospitals or prisoners be publically or privately owned? Shoud teachers health workers and prison guards be paid fixed salary or should their pay be performance based?.There is no definite, unique or any conclusive answer. The economists raise this kind of questions and with the help of the theory attempt to find  the answer .
In this connection I would like to quote Keynes from memory:
The theory of economics does not furnish a body of settled conclusions immediately applicable to public policy;.It is only a method rather than a doctrine an apparatus of mind a technique of thinking which help the possessor to draw correct conclusions”
The Nobel laureates talk about the power of theory in real life situation .For eg, if the manger is rewarded  for his short term cash flow management  the long term heath of the company may be affected. Very recently it has been found that privately managed prisons are not efficient in the U S and they are thinking of bringing it under government domain.
CONTRACT THEORY HAS RELEVANCE FOR RESOLVIG CAUVERY WATER ISSUE AND PAY FIXATION FOR ACDEMICS

Given the compulsion I will read more in future.Right now I can make use of their frame work to see the politics and ABSENCE of  economics behind Cauvery issue. Why  karnataka does not want to come under the contract law and defy the constitutional law? Every contract involves some conflicts and they must be resolved by the established contract law history and some give and take in the agreement. But it is saddening to note all the canons of economics and the system of governance are thrown to the dustbin and the so called officers are keeping quiet .That rogue state wants to appropriate all the benefits in a federation  without being monitored by any neutral agency in contractual terms  ie they want an  inefficient outcome for the nation and no benefit at all to TamilNadu. This is against  economics, ethics and  will amount to dirty , divisive and destructive politics affecting the very stability of the society.
This is what I have been telling for the last one month  . Now I have explained using  this framework in a better way.  why central government which is supposed to enforce the contract  and assist the highest court of the land  is also behaving like a litigant not bothered about finding solution .Like our manager it is also maximizing its capacity to mobilize the vote bank and desire to have competitive edge over congress ie . To play politics! They also do not want to listen to supreme court and get into any contractual obligations  .Extend this logic to all micro level contracts  in all markets .Will there be any economy ?It will be like a  full fledged disobedience movement against the economic integration of   the country, and the nation  will be plunged into chaos.I miss our former RBI governor now whose  world is in the realm of ideas
Before I conclude let me also apply the contract theory  to  the new pay scales .It is definitely a boon to the world of academics ie those who read teach and do rigorous research work not cut and paste pseudo stunt .But there are many for whom the scales and the compensation  when the theory is applied is an exorbitant  and their own conscience will prick  if there is one .There are empirical evidences to show that you can become Dean without even any [publication} not even writing letter to wife  AND EVEN WITHOUT TAKING A SINGLE CLASS  more sensibly and responsively  one can become Professor and attain the position of HOD .The recent surgical strike against the VC WHO HAD SUBMITTED  the bogus resume and the callousness of the screening and selection committee  and the gross irresponsibility of the great academicians   are the reminder that contract theory is hardly enforced and that merit need not be the only criteria for elevation to higher position.
This year Nobel prize in economics has more practical applicability. It is only ideas not vested interests which will rule in the long run   but in the long run we are all dead  as Keynes told.

whatever good you want to do, do it now Mr Prime minister there is no guarantee that you will walk again here.

Don’t talk about yourself; it will be done when you leave”
US playwright,Wilson Mizner

 “My dear beloved Prime Minister,
Namaskar vijadasamy greetings to you and all your colleagues
I would not have written this letter but for your reference to the leader upadhyay  whose sincerity of purpose touched my heart.
I appreciate your lauding of our neutral armed forces as it does not differentiate between the Congress or BJP  in saving the honour and survival  of our country in conducting surgical strike against the rogue neighbor who does not understand our blood relation of the past and treating our tolerance as an act of cowardice.I am with you an academician who has never lived a life of third rate politician for giving a mild shock to that  terrorist state which ia a nuisance and mjor irritant in resolving kashmir issue. I agree with you  Mr PM this year’s Vijayadasami is very special on this accout.
Like DMK fellows in Tamil nadu your BJP people, also draw their energy and ideology  and incorporate into the policy realm and that is quite understandable and acceptable given your simple majority in Parliament. But you should be careful that India was and is secular and different communities live happily and harmoniously  and at times the fundamentalists on both sides do some mischief to obtain some short run political benefits  As PM  you need not se terms like    “you attack me “ you have to make your administrative machinery to work with freedom  to put the criminals behind bars   whatever may be the party they belong to.
I do understand that the roots of your party  would put pressure   but going to Godse’s statue and garlanding when you are PM  disturbs me little  no problem I am not a great admirer of MR Mohan das Gandhi . I still feel that vallabai patel Should have been made as the first PM and Nehru could have waited .Sir I must hasten add that I  have a tremendous  respect for Our Nehru and he did build our industrial base  via  import substitution induced industrialization strategy  which is questioned by economists like Jagadish Bhagwati and others ‘
Sir , sorry for my digressin   .In my class room lecture also I do the same and I still love teaching in a good place where my students will be brilliant than me,
Mr Modiji,we do not have time today as I have to clean the debris of books  I want to conclude from  what you have said about the core of  UPADHYAYA.ie
His  core ‘’thoughts were the poor ,the village, the farmers , the dalits and the marginalized and that is why this government, is laying focus on such sections during the centenary celebration “
Sir,you sorry,  your ideological stalwart must be a good man like our Periyar and Anna  as he bleeds for the poor and argues for the oppressed and the disadvantaged;if that is the spirit and legacy how you  coud go against the interest of the farmers in Tamilnadu  by  taking  a quick  about turn and become the symbol or icon of  anti Tamil Nadu  refusing to meet our state MPs  who are larger in parliament and your party would have begged their support in case of a hung parliament and think god you escaped( you must ask Mr Vajpayee  for the full story),  because Our CM is not well or TN will not put BJP GOVRNMENT IN THE NEXT 1000 years .Sir we have farmers who are dependent on the flow of the river called Cauvery  and our Madras presidency got a better deal under British Raj. A British citizen helped to construct Mullai periyar dam. Here an Indian citizen who is more of  a foreign PM than domestic PM  does nat have an elementary sensitivity and PM responsibility  to treat all the states equally  .  Rivers are like mothers  and you are behaving like a step father although you are bachelor .Karnataka election has blinded you in taking a partisan attitude
As an elder and as the second opposition Prime minister truly non congress PM  ABOUT WHICH I AM PROUD  as a student of political economy  you are now colluding with the congress CM  and doing politics  AND HE IS THANKING you.
This is an offensive stand against the peace loving decent Tamils who are exercising patience and cultured silence   Please govern this country  as a rishi .I also read reports widely circulated in social media that huge benefits have been given to the corporate sector.
I write all these as I voted for Modi and not BJP.NOT ME  ALONE  many behaved  like that  otherwise you will not be sitting on the PM chair  we Wanted an alternative leader who will walk  on the road less travelled by and not behave like a local politician with foreign –NRI orientation alone  supporting MNCs.Even if a Marxist govt had been there they would have done what you are doing now as global finance and poltics shape our destiny .How can we question the rightist Bjp for carrying out the neo liberal policies. But please be right and straight in handling all the states as they are the  UNITED STATES OF INDIA  of a continental size  and god has given one chance to preside over its  destiny  a privilege which many will not get.  Better late than never .in life there is no second chance .but in politics where even one week is a long ..Time in politics you have the chance and power to do something for  THE POOR ,FARMER AND DALITS.
I seek god’s intervention to give you strength and guidance to go by the ru;es of the road  and 2000 year historicity cannot be allowed to be ridiculed and bulldozed by the recalcitrant elements which are not fit to rule the states .
The message is clear All the rivers in the country must be nationalized and it shoud be treated as public good   and every citizen is entitled for the water   please do not bring your economics,  private sector efficiency,  govt’ inability  virtues of privatization  and all kinds of nonsense which will hit the poor.In Australia people drink water from the tap … no aqua guard to filter as the water is good

we can go  to the extent of closing all soft drink industry as its contribution to health is nil or little.   You may think I am talking like an idealist and sagayam  IAS   will appreciate   me   and many Indians will remember me in the future I am able  to foresee water war like currency war  in the medium run .

unbridled passion and intimate violence leading to pareto optimum in a world of nothingness

He could not digest the abrupt end of the dream. When he was in the middle of the song there was a beating of retreat. He went to sleep again with the fond hope that she will revisit and make him more hungry. In a matter of minutes his prayers were answered:

The act was re-enacted with all tenderness and also more passion
Followed by intimate violence and she could only say that
That should not stop signaling that a kind of Pareto optimum
Was building up and they experienced a perfect bliss.
Trapped between the pair of shapely plantain trees, tender
But stubbornly strong and robust and still soft and subtle,
He explored the dense forests and deep valleys, and felt
More secure and strong and she felt relieved of  the ancestral pain

Getting emboldened and admiring her perfect features he
Traveled on the still unexplored territory which was now belonging
To him and thanked the Lord for this heavenly bliss on earth.
His attempt to kiss her with a sexuality that he never knew earlier
Made her exude something and said nothing and in a world of
Nothingness they got dissolved; successive dose of unbridled sexual act
Did not tire them out as they were new  to this God’s  way of  communication
In the art and science of love, more nobler and more spiritual

The beach ,the balloon and the child in a teenage girl

The other day  I went to beach to meet a professor from Hyderabad
Who could not spend some with me when I went there some time ago
I was pleasantly surprised to see another professor with his daughter,
Who also happened to be our family friend; walking on the beach
Without eating any junk food but recollecting the old experience
Was itself a pleasing moment and the plan for dinner was cancelled?

They were about to leave by car and the girl studying plus one gave us
The pleasant surprise, “Uncle, I want a balloon” and the vendor overhearing us
Brought one but the girl refused that and demanded the air filled one
And the Hyderabad Professor was quick to fetch and the small girl on the
Verge of early teenage was profusely happy and my thoughts revolved around...

My grand son now on a foreign soil; His Chennai grandfather used to shower on him
Tons of balloons and knows how to keep him in good humor and get his attention
They were well tuned and had a good time; a  few days before he left for Australia
I just taught him how to play with the balloon tossing up, float it for  a while and
Not let it fall down and go on giving gentle push to keep it afloat- the game....

He enacted few days ago from there and asked me to watch…children learn fast
And a teenage girl’s fascination for balloon reveals the innocence of our times in the past
I think and recollect now for the first two daughters I did not do justice
And the youngest one by sheer stubbornness would have got balloons,
As a mother now she has filled the house with variety of toys and  education kids
I am amazed by her evolution as mother and we miss all of them, and wish them
Good health

In the middle of the song the dream came to an abrupt end

I stopped  the story  when he was hijacked by her infinite variety. When she came closer he was dumb bounded even to utter a single word  His own inherent  shyness and carefully cultivated habits restrained him to explore the territory that did not belong to him .  Quite surprisingly the initiative came from her…and he seized it with all reluctance .
He could not help watch her  and they were now together
He could feel all the five senses of pleasure  .
He told himself: Oh God thank you for all the bliss that was bestowed upon me,
I was starved of this divine love .You made me experience this
Fully ,forcefully and feverishly and endlessly.

In their reciprocal exchange of endless love and intimate mating
The two bodies got electrified and intoxicated and the two  souls
Got fused, they realized God and saw heaven and thanked HIM
When he longed to be within the circle of her arm and
Attempted to experience the smells and sounds of the body

The long dream came to an abrupt end,
but even now he could sense her breath on his shoulder
And gentle warmth On his chest…..

But like flash  flood everything  was gone

Innocent girlish look giving way to matured sexual assault:he was bemused and bewildered and finally hijaccked

Many years passed and the seasons changed and as if a flash of lightning, she came just like that not in a fashion of innocence as was the case once, but  creating thunder storm in his heart now. For long he had been feeling the life needed a shake up and the mind had acquired a great restlessness and the devilish and degrading thoughts were constantly invading and unsettling the mind: It was at that juncture like a gentle breeze she was passing and he was gazing, straight without feeling any sense of shame.

She was slightly grown up but  still in her final days of teenage,
Tender like a creeper, strong like the wind and warm like an evening sun.
Full of love, compassion, life and inexplicable friendship ;fully proportioned
More cultured and harmoniously developed, he could not help watching her
With eager eyes and all inventive imagination running riot in the molecules  of brain

It was not just physical beauty, the half sari triggered chemistry/physics, the body
Almost fully covered but incredibly revealing all nakedness only to his lustful eyes.
He saw intellectual brilliance and energetic intelligence explode in her eyes,
The twinkling eyes, more mischievous, with all sexual appeal like a piercing arrow
To make you go wild and lose your carefully crafted delicate balance,

Just innately beautiful and inherently vibrant, but paradoxically
Lifting your nobler and divine but also the meaner and beastly basic instincts
Simultaneously and successfully; demonstrating thereby
There was continuity and change in her body, mind and outlook…
Even at that time of losing himself totally he remembered Keynes’ Animal Spirit “
In a different context and also  the title of a book with the same label
Dealing with the financial crisis.

Was he in a state of crisis possessed by a different nobler animal spirit neglected by many?
In the digital, hi tech world of power, position, title, craziness for wealth……
Yes in a pleasantest manner abandoning all the so called good manners for good.
He was in a state of shock: bemused and bewildered and virtually hijacked.

when i saw her first she looked more divine and homely-a sensuous poem Part-1

Long   long ago, when I saw her, she was just an innocent cute little girl
On the threshold of early teenage in the purest and best form
Of brownish silken skin, and lengthy hair radiating scent;,
Structured like a framed picture and  Smelling like a  pleasant  perfume
She looked more divine and homely without any sexual assault.
She was just walking with an air of casualness and girlish look
Meriting attention from both young and the old and almost
Everyone wanted to cling to her and would not let her go.
As  she was  full of fun and bristling with laughter, and humor
Children loved her and longed to be with her forever.
The irony was the most beautiful women  desired to stare at her

Without any trace of jealousy or hatred- a rare trait to witness.

pain of love lasts more than the pleasure; the resulting sadness and barrenness is incredible

It is all about love transmitted to the familiar ones, near and dear but not reciprocated; abundant love thrown out but met with a casual indifference. Time heals all the sorrows and the emotional turmoil resulting from the separation will slowly subside.

I can understand how people suffer by loving blindly and possessively and virtually taking a ride  without  realizing the ramifications on the other side. Whatever may be the cause or circumstances the crude reality is pain of love lasts more than the pleasure that it yielded once. It is very difficult to explain the pain and describe the situation.

Will time wipe away all the pleasant feelings and finer sentiments? What seemed to be real at one point of time can hardly become illusion in  the present? Even if there is residual one can cling and live with some hope that everything is not lost.

Mirza Ghalib captures this existential dilemma of those whose only fault is jut loving and loving only without any expectation. He says :

Oh! The incredible sadness that is so intertwined with unrequited love. With the deepest sigh in your heart for the person you love is met with a casual nonchalance…..it is just so unbearable. How does one describe it?

All of us need love and friendly smile and kind words as they are 'few bright threads in the dull fabric of life.'

The other day I wrote a few lines from Thomas Murray for young children. Children are not only stubborn and aggressive some time and they seek purity  of attention. Yes, they need to be noticed and appreciated because they want it and crave for love and approval. They are also possessive. Love locked into our hearts does not reach them unless it is told. It is like a letter written but never posted.
Now a day we do not even write letters but scribble an e mail  in a hurry which is not a substitute for the traditional paper which carried our emotions. In this dehumanized age and hi-tech world, we tend to rein in emotions. We withhold words of love, admiration and approval. How can others know unless we tell them?
It is not just children all of us badly need words love and affectionate smile to fill the void to help fill the vacuums in life so as to come out of depression and despair. I am sure, with the exception of a few  most of us have not done justice to our parents  in one important respect ie we have not sat and spent time and listened to them when they were alive
Regardless of your age and background- be it intellectual or financial  you are an emotional  being  and hence you need love and affection and recognition for the work. Sweet and gentle words, friendly eyes and purity of attention to children’s woes and their loneliness, will make them energetic. A few words like,”I love you. I am proud of you I am glad you are here” will give more happiness. They are really “ few bright threads in the dull fabric of life.”

stormy weather here and elsewhere and my grandson on the facebook made me think THOMAS MURRAY

For the past two days our region has been receiving some rain with thunder and lightning in the night; the weather is cool and pleasant in the night but in the day time it is still hot. In Adelaide too, there was storm and heavy rain. My grandson enjoys the rainy season and  I do not know how he feels there. After having seen his face in the FB my thoughts revolved around not just him but many young children, their worries and concerns ,fears and imaginations dreams and desires especially when they find themselves in a new environment.Since they are children they adapt themselves effortlessly. And yet there will be a secret desire in their subconscious mind to see the old faces and hear their voices. Their advantage today is that they live in virtual world and communication channels are wide open. But it is always better that they should delink for a while so as to absorb into the new soil for their growth.
Fortunately for him there is no school but by a strange quirk of fate he does not have company to play at home; a few children are there but far away and that he gets a chance to meet once in a while .My boy’s advantage is that he has understanding parents and hence he is escaping from the injection of the academics into his head . parents are his world.
There is a dilemma for young kids below five or six which language they should concentrate or focus upon. When Indian children are forced to read everything in English as if they  were born in UK we can well imagine the complexities in a foreign soil where you have to breathe in English with their accent. At the same time one cannot ignore the roots –the mother tongue. To some extent my boy was lucky to be in his native soil for the first three years and some minimum spoken Tamil he must have  already grasped. Slowly he will get exposed to the academic climate there and get used to it.
Before I conclude I feel like taking a few words and sentences from  and  Thomas Murray to make the children know what they ought to know when they grow up; in what follows I condense a few of his sermons as a sample:
what I want  my children to know and  realize that life is not lived in lifetime or even seasons but in  sunny morning and snowy afternoon.I want my children to understand that the world is about people, that we will get from them no more than we give ,that we will always be happier human beings when we love than we hate, when we help than when we hurt.
I want them to know that almost everyone can achieve whatever he thinks he can achieve. I want a child to understand that if he believes in himself, he can use his energy to work towards what he wants to be or do and not In wondering whether he is good enough to try. For worry will wear him out as fast as work and worse will tie him to the starting line.(note:my second grand daughter was instrumental for typing and the theme was defined when I saw arjun on the FB)

on talking less, working more and reducing BP : auto suggestion for me

Please leave me alone. Let me remain locked in my room and be with books; they will give more joy and peace like my school friend- village friend. Who is my best friend? Will there be any worst friend if you have chosen good friends earlier? We  meet some in every phase of life .All of them cannot be friends
In times of crisis who is better?  Friends or Relations Or God? Young children will lighten your heart! I have switched off the mobile.  You cannot reach me through landline as it is in upstairs and I am not there now ;I will neither talk nor listen. Silence and solicitude for sometime at least?. Yes. Can you practice it? Why not?
Please leave me alone. I have had a great comparative advantage in speaking …non top … talking too much
The other day,a  charming old lady , in the sixties  ,told affectionately  like a headmistress treating me as a school boy   “you are talking too much “.Just 45 min association was sufficient for her to judge me rightly, stunned by my  aggressive speech on the stage .no doubt,    she was appreciating  but  also cautioning that I must slow down  and leave things to God to manage the world  .was she my savior?  An angel sent by the supreme?
Perhaps yes. She was telling  the obvious ie I should bother about my health and I am not carrying the burden of the world ;anger against the system  and my helplessness in taming it.

The side effects of talking too much will be a rise in BP. It is a lesson to all. Long ago RD carried a piece talk less and reduce BP;  then why do want to talk?
When this question was raised to somebody who was a scholar he replied simply:  I want to hear my voice again and again. All of us want and everyone can not  just do that and those who can do must moderate .
Prof SAM ,  meditate on kural and Keynes   and of course  currency crisis….you are born to accomplish a lot in diverse fields without much plan or order.sit on the bed or near the desk  write. You are not running away from the role of care taker…spend time with your first love and also the second love-much wounded love, but pure love, ailing for long but fighting tenaciously with stoic smile and indomitable courage. Green grass carpets the earth. Rain clouds quench the thirst. The coconut tree takes sweet water from below and delivers through its head…Talk less   do not talk at all .Be a man of deeds  and not  words;  do more work;   move away from vague and pompous  and befriend the humble and honest and the number will shrink and you will not misallocate time.

And always measure your steps and enjoy reading everything under the Sun. you are indebted to earth. You cannot afford to exit/quit without completing the assigned task.wlii lord help fight your enemies from within and take you to the desired destination?

Doubt and faith and a discourse on girl friend : revisiting college days

‘What  really is doubt and what is faith/doubt creates the darkest moments in our finest hour while faith brings  the finest moments in our darkest hour’, goes a spiritual saying.
I do not know how many of you have had the darkest hours and  or solid faith.I know I am a doubting Thomas and I did not have much romance with temples    but I have had fleeting and flirting relationship with the superior plane thanks to my childhood friends. Despite my ambivalence or rather indifference I had a tremendous faith in the supreme. It might look like a contradiction but it is not because I am not for rituals and somehow anger against the creator was always lingering and there is no shyness in admitting that
When I stood first in  BA at Tagore Arts college and state first and later after 2 years, first class and first rank at Madras presidency College ie when I was just 20 plus  I was sure that this was the magical realism of the Unseen and the divine had ordained this due to some cause and effect. Later when so many intricate and unexplainable problems did crop up I did ask the question why  Me ?  and wrote many pages of poetry and finally accepted the pain of reality.
It is not just academic or financial or domestic matter wherein I had understood the presence of the destiny ; in the most important teenage period  HE saved  me through  DR MU VA novels. And of course good child hood friends were there as protective wings. The correlation between intelligence and the sensuous side is well known and fortunately I negotiated the vicious curves and bends on the super highway of my college life away from village home. Fear and brought up were the insulators against all seductive influences.very easily I cold have gone astray  but The goodness of the universe saved me like a mother.; and the subject illed the void and it is still saving me
In our group of five man army at presidency  I was the only shy boy who did not have a girl friend. The other girls used to say .’why you have brought this samiyar also?”.I took it as a complement then and I cannot relish it now   . It was a plus point for me at that  time  but now when I type this I feel rather reluctantly that I missed something in life. What is so special about a girl Friend especially at a very young age? Those who were lucky to have one(applicable to girl also but she will not talk openly but carry the burden for ever deep into heart) can  alone know this  and ruminate over it  during old days…  I started with doubt and Faith and I feel that I have been leaning on the latter with experience and ageing process.
Paper on the future of Euro was sent successfully with the assistance rendered by my research associate who is a banker in DELHI. Girl or family is insignificant before Macro or monetary.  It is not strictly a correct statement as I have written elsewhere Macro was more like a girl friend in a typical world of fantasy. My youngest daughter right from day one treated me as her first boy friend
Those who have treated economics dry and boring subject mistakenly (i wanted to write foolishly) will curse me and I will take it as a blessing  because they only know how love affair with eco is very difficult to handle and manage!I must thank my better half –the second wife for having abandoned me in order that I will have more time with economics. Now tamil is competing with it and both will merit attention.   Who says love will come only once?

I request my FB readers to take the last sentence rather lightly and just laugh away your problems and for that matter we shall take life as it evolves and not worry too much  because God says : I will share your burden

English  is exacting. Tamil is terrorizing. Mathematics     is muddling, physics is lethal, chemistry is confusing Biology is befuddling. History is hell and geography   is stupefying.’

Guess who said this /It is very difficult to say as it was not told by any celebrity figure. This was actually a lamentation of 10 th standard student. I do not remember where and when  did I come across this interesting sentence I do not remember.

Although this letter is addressed to my grand children ,this is also meant for any young child in primary or middle school or even high school .Recently I read about a girl who had a higher  level of IQ  and mastered the college level stuff even while  she was in a school .She could join effortlessly in university in a foreign country I suppose it is the U. S.Exceptional brains  deserve this lift and exposure in an academically pregnant environment.

At school level one must study various subjects –the fndmentals, regardless of  one’s own  taste as one should know everything about something. The question of specialization will come at a later stage at plus 2 level and at that time some guidance might be needed from parents and teachers but the final decision must rest with the boy or the girl only.

Dear young minds .what do you want to become? It is too early but you can listen to your heart and of course your friends’ influence will be also there. In the information rich world your canvas is wide open and   you only need to press the button and thumb through the pages and get inspired by  the  talented .

When I was a young boy in school  and later at college English did not intimidate me and Tamil was my favorite .Mathematics was the weak spot .chemistry was fascinating in school but science was beyond my reach .but I was destined to muddle through first group in PUC –Maths, Physics and chemistry and somehow god saved me
.
Without any idea I joined the club of Economics and it was like an arranged marriage- destined by god  .but romance did crop up and the boundless love ensued and I am surviving with that young girl(eco is still a young science and growing) who hardly complains about orgasm  .She makes me hungry where she satisfies.

The last Para you will understand when you end up with a good friend at the right age  and that scent/perfume will make your studies more meaningful

(Note, my second daughter typed when I dictated the first half and the latter part I typed after a deep sleep till 5 pm) i must go to beach now.

A few lines for me to activate myself towards work:i pray for sakthi from my sakthi square and the cosmos.

I am in mid-sixties.for reasons I am not able to fully understand  I feel dispirited , tired and feeling sleepy while reading during daytime. I do fully understand that lack of sleep during night may be the reason. I want to console myself and hence I write a few lines for me.
SAM   you have told many a time that you never feel old although you will be getting old. That is the spirit ;which  means life can be good, enjoyable and more pleasant after 60 plus. Indeed life begins  afresh now as there is no office pressure. Old age is as real as young age was once. We cannot fool ourselves that one can expect the power and beauty of the youth.
And yet  if you do work with much enthusiasm both physical and intellectual, you will feel young at heart. Your merit is that you can move with the  ordinary people and this social relation is a kind of social capital that will keep you in good stead. Seashore is a boon and you have not exploited it fully. See the roaring waves and hear the music of water and also smell the whisper of the wind; they are with you  and they secretly tell you that you must work and show to the supreme that you have fulfilled HIS  command. Being  a gifted child your energy can not be frittered away. The ailing wife is very bold and she is a role model for you; repay your debt to her
There are problems to sort out and you need to set right the financial house in proper order. You must build up the stamina by doing more work at home. Rearranging the books  and writing daily  will take you to a higher plane. Enjoy  the moment and let there be more movement and have a good temperament and altitude to negotiate any unexpected but often unsettling changes that may visit you on the path of life. Grand children will breathe fresh energy and they are your constructive critics. Listen to them.
With the new assignment of future of euro . you  also cultivate a little ambition. Selectively your boy at Delhi will play a supportive role. Thank your small girl for typing on post Keynesian economics. Your girl friend   eco will romance with you perpetually. Pray for the entire humanity. Nature will listen to you

My youngest granddaughter attempts to narrate a tale on power of love from memory:An exercise in typing and also writing

It  was typed by my second grand daughter priya Dharshini from memory  to get the feel of both writing and typing just now .I only did some minor correction.I do not know whether it is from her lessons or some other book .it is only  an exercise for her  and she has a good memory and neat hand writing  i hope this will motivate the elder one too to try the art of story telling.without her permission i am putting it in this blog to surprise her .now the story as she has typed from memory:

The great Zen teacher Benzie had many pupils .one day a student was caught stealing. His classmates told the teacher about it .Benzie did not call the boy or punish him. A few days later the same boy was again caught stealing. Some of the students wanted to leave the school if Benzie did not punish the boy at once.
The teacher called the meeting of students. When they assembled he said to them:” you are good boys .you all know what is right and  what  is wrong. If you leave  the school you will have no trouble in joining another school. But what about your brother here ,[pointing to the boy who was caught stealing] . I have not punished him at once. If I don’t I cannot ask him to go. I have other plans to correct him ;that would take time . I would like all of  you to stay here. The boy who was caught  stealing earlier was in tears. He never stole again. Later in his life he became famous for his honesty.

Violence and vandalism have no place in federalism.Do not allow anti- nationals to dominate over mainstream parties

I hope all of you will agree  when I say  and suggest  that  Rain is nature’s benevolence; absence of which  is  human folly; trapping of it in a region where  it originates is a crime. Not sharing with the neighboring regions is more serious crime and  a negation of federalism and against elementary humanism.
Tamil Nadu had a better deal under British India under 1924 cauvery water agreement. Under independent India, rulers do not have time to address to people’s problem as they are too busy in touring the world and shaping foreign policy and or prioritizing all issues in terms of vote bank politics and  deploying  negative and intimidating tactics. The two mainstream parties have an inherent bias,  hatred  and jaundiced perception against TN, as they do not want to act according to law and dharma as they do not stand to gain in the election arena.
The federal government  -not this Modi’s Raj alone can be faulted as he is following the tradition and is keen to follow  please all policy  by internalizing Mr Manmohan’s  language of silence-  the entire establishment over many decades was the main /prime villain of the piece in precipitating the crisis by not carrying out the mechanism to monitor and regulate the flow of water cross the states. Centre has a responsibility to behave like a mother, not a step mother.
It is high time the party high command sacked the CM of Karnataka for his failure in managing the economy in crisis period and his stupidity in going to court by citing violence which he was supposed to control;  failing which the center must dismiss the government for having failed to prevent the people’s lives and property and maintain law and order. Violence and vandalism cannot be unleashed by fringe parties which do not represent or reflect the true Karnataka.United we stand and divided we fall .

Mr Modi who is also PM for TN will act and warn the states that they must  behave well.He should go into the history that he was the one who did what others failed to do.

Intrest rate hike by the US is long overdue Will it take place sooner than later?

While Europe and Japan have their own residual recessionary tendencies and the terror triggered uncertainty  and political chaos compounding the economic difficulties  the US  is on  a stronger wicket .it has come out of the recession and it is marching towards  close to maximum employment .stable prices indicating  a  better inflation performance and better outlook for economic activities have strengthened the case for a hike in interest rates .
The Fed chief Janet yellen hinted this  in a recent international  gathering of the central bankers and academics. She said however that the worrisome trend is,invesment demand is weak and the export has beenI hit by the strong dollar and that consumption alone is the solid driver of growth .
it can be recalled that for nearly a decade  the interest rate was kept at a ridiculously low level and only last December the Fed raised interest for the first time. Because of the global slowdown  and volatility in financial markets the subsequent increase in the rate  has been put off.
In the last eight years  We have had the central bankers attempting to stimulate economies  by cutting interest rates to near zero and flooding the banks with cash and more liquidity in the  economy. Soon the world also has to confront the long term  consequences of  of this ultra easy money policy and the ramification on inflation and exchange rates

The interest RATE AND EXCHANGE RATE CYCLE caused by the U S periodically will have more intensity in future so long as there is uncoordinated economic policies. It I also time the debate on globalization was revisited as the darker side of it is fully learnt both by the developed world

Recollecting Mahe trip in tranqulity:Meeting a few students was a bonus in life.wi mahe make me hungry in future too when it satisfies now?

Like the first love, first poem and the first kiss, which no one can forget, to me personally the first batch of my students  I adore most in my life .It so happened that for more than 40 years I could not go back to the region which gave me a job and some training in teaching. The first  alumni meet was held last year September and after 43 years I saw my old young students who had crossed above sixty now.Kodiyeri Balakrishnan the former home minister of kerala our first batch iii group student was the special invitee   and this year I found myself again here for two days after attending a conference at St Joseph college, Payyanoor.
Pushpajan and Rajan were informed earlier and they took care. The unexpected hartal did not allow me to visit Thalaserry.Sitting near the sea and ruminating over the past in a typical monsoon time was an experience by itself.Le café provided Iddli  vada and a good working lunch.By strange quirk of fate I met  kumaran, Soman,Premnath, and a few others on the Mahe walk path.Premnath told that sreedhan will come the next day
Pavithran, Rajan, and sreedharan used to sit in the front bench and sreedharan who completed MA literature surprised me by quoting a few from memory what I told in the class(70-72).
Sir, let me tell a few words- the arresting words and sentences you uttered in the class.  ….when one fellow was throwing an arrow towards a girl you told:
You think that you are a hero
Who can send arrow which
I cannot notice/see but
I can not only see that ,but also foresee that

After the exam is over you will be a zero
Referring to  a  student who refused to answer the question but kept on  laughing in the class how I lost control and shouted, he recalled:”when you are showing the teeth, something is burning in my heart”.
In the lecture on the evolution of money you told:”Man made money and afterwards money made man mad’
Sir,In the second year I was late in coming and sometimes not coming the college  and then you told  me:’Sreedharan  you are not what you were in the first  year   now a days you are regularly irregular”
And yet You used to appreciate me by saying that I am the one to grasp  in the first hearing   but sir  now I am not able to get in the first hearing but only in second or third.Premnath explained that he has hearing ptoblem.I could sense and feel the sense of humor.I could not spend more time with him as I had to leave with Pushpajan expected at any time and I wanted some breathing time to get ready. The previous day Rajan spent the whole evening with me along with his friend throwing a typical kerala food with fried fish and fish curry and many other things.
The magical spell of mahe will be a part of my self and I am grateful to the supreme for the economics breathed into my veins thro my teachers  chief among them is Prof.Sasankan from Kerala.I remember all of them on the eve of Teachers day

Director Ram"s write up on Muthkumar Part 4;In a span of 41 year he carried out 100 years of labour without taking rest

Right from his entry into the  film world  17 years ago  he has written more than 1500 songs. Indeed in the last 12 years he was the one who wrote more lyrics in Tamil Cinema. Following Kannadasan  and Vairamuthu tradition, in the Tamil cinema film song segment, he was the super star continuously. To sustain this star status every year the efforts he had made and the pressures he had experienced were enormous and painstaking . He would say,” writing songs for film is just like going on hilly road in a car on the mountainous region in a reverse gear.”
Whenever there is a chance  to write song about mother character, thoughts of his mother will envelope; the dangled legs of his mother will come before his eyes when she hanged herself to death. Till date he would never raise his head and look into the eyes of anyone and this trait was born when he saw the legs of his mother as a small boy at that moment. While writing every song, he would get back into the pain of the past or lock himself into his thoughts and bring the message and felt that it was his  job. The side effects of this act was uneasiness and inexplicable pressure and in the recent times he has shared  with me.

In a span of 41 years he carried out what one could labour in100 years, without taking any rest whatsoever. What remains after his final exit is the lyrics-more than 1500 songs he has written.(will they not speak for themselves)

kerala may be God's own country but pondicherry too at times might resemble for a fleeting moment

After walking for an hour and sipping a small peg of hot tea in Kerala shop, opposite to Sarguru  fresh energy has been pumped into and I want to capture a few lines lest I forget.  I was reminiscent of the weather of wayyanad and Kumaraham region of kerala- the regions I visited more in the last one year, while devouring the fresh air and enchanting beauty of Pondicherry beach between 5 and 6 am today; the weather was very pleasant. It had rained the previous night; the air was cool and soothing; the sky was overcast with black shade and the sea water was also black. Who says black is not beautiful?
Kerala may be God’s own country. I also love my country Puducherry .Despite the absence of dynamic and smart leadership this region has grown modestly and there is a semblance of peace and beauty.
By the time I returned back towards the non functional Distillery zone the light had come and the black beauty has disappeared .Then I realized that unlike Kerala Nature will not be at full play always!.
But there is a new found enthusiasm now on the part of both CM and The Lt governor to make the city clean and livable and the sea erosion is also likely to be addressed.
Lazy Sam, Do not lay on the bed depleting energy and allowing devilish thoughts ,just escape to  the seashore early and enjoy the painting by the supreme on the vast canvas, the colours and the contour of the sky changing every fleeting moment.
Did not Bharathi sing long ago: Translated on the back of the envelope,it reads :  we shall row the boat in the Ganges river singing a beautiful song in sweet Telugu in the  pleasant company of young keralite beauty on a full moon day and play. Does the federal India know there was one such mad person lived here in my region and talked about the unity and integration of the country without undermining any state or any part of the state ?

.Though life is not  a child’s play it is manageable only if we discover the child in us and behave with all naiveté without abandoning the spirit of  the stubbornness and strength of a child.

write up on Muthu -- part 3;Is film world like a glass curtain economy, shining and glittering?!

Work in the film industry is generally perceived by public as one of celebrations, and merry making entertainment. This has been the conventional wisdom. The majority opinion here is that those who succeeded here and thrived are conceived as princes of the erstwhile dynasty of kings/Rajas and live in a glittering celluloid world ( with all the privacy of their heart  throbs?).But the truth is different. But the film world is more like a cruel snake and ladder game where in  there is always a rat race- a  sort of reckless competition and uneasiness experienced by all ,lest the position just secured  might slip away and the ardent desire to somehow sustain the existing status and rank/position. The world of cinema is full of complete economic uncertainty.Muthu would often say  to me:Subbu,be careful, it is not my mother …. or your mother…..(colloquial expression). It is cinema da…even while you  sleep  see that you  keep on shaking legs otherwise they will conclude; you are dead.

Some order in the Disorderly Orderly behavior at long last:will it become a habit?

‘Be not content with the ease of a passing day, and deprive not thyself of everlasting rest. Barter not the garden of eternal delight for the dust-heap of a mortal world. Ascend to the glorious meals above, and wing thy flight unto paradise “.
 Bahai Hidden words  #39
I do not know to what degree my boys Professors Ammanulah and Aravanan were snatched away at the young age in gruesome car accident to partake  heavenly  meals ;more recently the young Muthukumar who was ascending in the literary/film world was gently taken under the guise of jaundice. I had hat trick in falling thrice some years ago hit from behind  twice and head on collusion once and the gift of God was that I was not aware of the fall ie not conscious at the time of hit but suddenly get up as if nothing had happened bt blood profusely running from the rear portion of the head and drenching the new banian and the new shirt(?) .In all the three cases In the process of volunteering to help the fellow2 human  -friends and colleagues, I met with these  accidents. All were fatal. Why did God save me?
Why recollect all these memories now? Why did Iqbal not type that piece  “Hat trick in falling” and got it misplaced? When I step into my late sixties I realize the speed with which the days are passing and I do not want to rest on the arm chair and enjoy the ease of each passing day. Living among the dust-heap of books and files accumulated over 50 years I want to taste the meals here, sip tea and God willing occasional  sumptuous food to test the digestive system and just read.
In the last week I had a troubled sleep, remaining  awake till  1  or2 am grossly abusing my system  and spoiling health.Abhoring day time sleep and going to bed at 10 30 I could get up at 4  an ideal time for me to read for an hour  “The future of Money “ –the book on crisis  gifted by Armstrong and sent thro Jain is on the bed.As it needs my gentle caressing  let me stop here .Ben Bernanke is also simultaneously read.I pray that these twins will put me on the track to work on my volumes suspended for  long  - for ages.

Oh! The supreme I do not have the age on my side  and help me to get freedom from the academic debris consciously collected because of unbridled academic greed.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained,
There’s always reward for audacity and courage,
Have faith and courage in your hands,
Face life as it unfolds with all crude
 UNCERTAINITIES and absurdities.

There is so much of trust deficit, one is scared of
Liking and loving and believing the fellow human;
When money eats and dictates and the bloody
Dirty money alone defines the path of life, and
Dominates the mind 24x7 in a drunken state,
Finer feelings and civility are thrown to the winds.

What shall we do?
Hal Borland comes to my rescue:
“No winter lasts forever, no spring skips its turn,
Knowing trees I understand the meaning
OF patience.
Knowing grass I can appreciate persistence.”

I will not throw mud, I will not allow that bloody outburst
To penetrate my heart  and disturb my  equipoise ,
Chewing more than what stomach can digest
And treading the path of corporate frauds,
Do not preach sermon.we have been taken for granted
And not vice versa.Yes gentlemen of the jury

When wealth accumulates men decay.

He loved to live with all relation and lived to love with a child,s heart and mind-tribute by Ram

The write  up on Muthkumar -part 2

Ram continues: Thereafter we met quite often. During those days Muthu would spend his time mostly in the office of  Arivumathi( a celebrity in the literary film worldwho became his elder brother and mentor).Tambaram ,being my place the train link from kodambakkam to Tambaram  effortlessly brought him safe to me and united him with me .In that short train travel  he will enjoy sitting on the door steps. Once we enter the train  we will move to the opposite side and sit near the door dangling our legs. We will  closely observe whatever is moving or running on the way and discuss varied topics. One day when there was a scorching  heat there were some drizzles and at that time  a funeral procession was going on.Muthu’s immediate response was:” when a man dies regardless of summer heat it will also rain.”In his final journey too ,it rained  even while sun was shining.

Although Muthu had  a mind of a vagabond, desired to be amidst   forests and caves and his  ardent wish  was to sleep by looking at the stars, his roads will always  end up  towards his home only .in his long journey of his short life without the presence of mother ,all the relations provided the solace and he had immense love  and incredible respects and regard for  them.Muthu  was a beloved son;a beloved brother; beloved grandson; beloved father; beloved husband;he had so much love for his son and thinking about  him  he would sometime stand  nervous and uneasy and imprison himself into  the syllable of the word  Appa (father) .when he got his daughter eight months ago, he introduced her as his  mother borne to him.Thi is how he heaped his enormous love on the relations. I think sincerely that during his living period he has done full justice to the family as a son , as brother as grandson, as a father and as a husband.

The simplest pleasures that he derived from his circle of relations ,he always cherished and celebrated. His longing for their love perpetually and his craving for affection like a childs’ mind are abundantly scattered(recorded) in many serials of essays written in Ananda Vikatan. (To be continued)

A lengthy essay by Director Ram on Muthkumar :Part 1 love at first sight

A write up on Muthu …Na Muthukumar by Ram,  not the Hindu  N Ram , but  Director Ram

I do not know my literary link with Na Mu.Right from his untimely demise I have been in a state of shock and  uneasiness .The question of death of the innocent and young  frighten me and make me more humble . Soloman  Pappaya would say whenever he thinks about his mother the tears will trickle down  from his eyes and I have also experienced the same.  Without any blood relationship   Muthu  made me cr on 14 Aug ust 2016; and that gave some relief and then stability.

His finer feelings as a human ,the inherent  shyness and inclination towards simplicity of life and his strength of character  all revealed through his writing did make some impact on me. The current issue of Ananda  Vikatan(24-8-16) carries a write up on him by Ram and also Bhava  Selvadurai.I will try to approximate their views and feelings by translating them into a language read by many with due acknowledgement to the publisher.

1996.Every Friday in madras Christian college under the shadows of a tree , a poetry reading session woul d go on under the banner “vanam”.In that act of reading poetry session many outsiders also would join our college students.Muthukumar was one such person who came to  sell his " butterflies"(his poetry volume ?) in our  “vanam”.After the session we sipped tea.As there was hardly anything to talk I suggested to him:”Why can’t you stay for two days in the hostel and go home on Monday?”Sipping the tea hot , he agreed  with a  slurping sound.”A few would  take more time to befriend us.But in the case of Muthukumar it was love at first sight. At the flight of a second  he took me as his friend and there was reciprocity from my side too.
